my-toronto.ca welcomes freelance journalists to submit story ideas via email to mytorontomedia@gmail.com.
Please note that we do not welcome political posts nor do we publish opinion pieces or stories that may pose as controversial. We are a feel-good site that promotes positivity about our city, its people and culture. Check existing posts to familiarize yourself with our friendly writing style and format.
- We promote journalism that is originally authored by, you guessed it, journalists. All articles and media must be original content. We use AI Detectors to ensure that all submissions are original content. Articles written with Chat GPT or other AI engines will not be considered.
- Each article for regular posts should carry a minimum of 130 words and a maximum of 150 words.
- If submitting video along with the article, please supply one (1) LANDSCAPE FORMAT and one (1) PORTRAIT short video for social media. Landscape videos cannot run over 1:00 minute. Portrait videos should not run over 0:45 seconds.
- ARTICLE ONLY. For articles without media support: $0.25 per word
- ARTICLE WITH PHOTO. For articles with high definition photo: $0.35 per word. Photo credit will be given to author, but image is owned by my-toronto.ca. Please ensure photos are set in LANDSCAPE FORMAT.
- ARTICLE WITH PHOTO, LANDSCAPE VIDEO AND SHORT PORTRAIT VIDEO: For articles with 1 high definition landscape photo, 1 high definition/stabilized landscape video and 1 short reel portrait video: $0.50 per word. Video credit will be given to author, but images are owned by my-toronto.ca.
- All accepted submissions, photos and videos submitted to my-toronto.ca are owned by my-toronto.ca. To publicly share articles, photos and videos that have been accepted and published by my-toronto.ca, share through my-toronto.ca’s site and/or social media pages and not directly through the writer’s personal sites.
- Note that submissions with subject matter that have already been or are currently being covered by my-toronto.ca will not be considered.
- Articles already published on social media or other sites will not be considered.
- If accepted, writers are welcome to include a social media link along with their byline. A photo appearing with your byline will need to be submitted via Gravatar. This can be any image, as long as it is original content from the author and the author has permission to publish the image.
