Fairmont Royal York’s Busy Bees

-

The Fairmont Royal York welcomes thousands of visitors every year, including stars such as Jennifer Anniston and Justin Bieber. However, that’s not the only buzz crowd this 95-year-old establishment accommodates.

The Royal York is also host to half a million honey bees and seven queen bees atop the roof of their 28-floor structure. With a total of seven hives, they produce 400 pounds of honey each year and actively pollinate our city’s trees and plants.

The honey is used across the hotel’s restaurants such as Reign Restaurant and Bar, Library Bar and Clockwork Champagne and Cocktails.

Toronto was the first “Bee City” in Canada, adopting planting initiatives and advocacy projects like the Royal York bees to help reduce the negative impact on bee and butterfly populations.

To sneak a peek of the rooftop, peer down from the  Stratus Restaurant on TD Tower’s 36th floor and enjoy their menu or a cocktail.
