Goats Hit the City

-

For the first time, goats are cleaning up our city’s urban spaces and we can visit these hard-working landscapers in action.

The city of Toronto is pairing with Goats in the City Inc. in hopes to control invasive plant species and restore our natural habitats without the use of herbicides or machinery. These goat grazers are hoping to be the answer to balance the city’s urban ecosystems since goats tend to leave behind the healthy, desired native plants to the area.

The Goat Pilot Project will be tested out at Evergreen Brickworks on June 25th and 26th and, if successful, will use target grazing as an effort to minimize detrimental plant life (such as poison ivy) that can rapidly dominate urban landscapes.

Visitors to Evergreen Brickworks can witness the goats hard at work during 10:00am – 8:00pm.

Evergreen Brickworks is an environmentally focused community center that is home to wetlands, meadows, waterfalls, multiple species of birds, marshland creatures and fish.
